How The Computer-Based Program Works
LCA HOME SCHOOL provides a powerful solution for parents looking for the benefits of an online, private Christian school with a nurturing environment and the time-saving features of a web-based curriculum. The curriculum consists of core subjects plus PE/Athletics, Fine Arts, and electives all integrated with biblical truths and principles and supported by the “Living Curriculum” – our certified Christian teachers.
Students enjoy completing their daily schoolwork on the computer, while working through scheduled assignments. The curriculum provides students a variety of interactive exercises, movies, animations, and audio clips that add to the learning experience.
Instant-grading features in the software allow students and parents to receive immediate feedback on academic progress. A home-page calendar helps keep students on their individualized learning tracks. Our highly qualified teachers enhance learning by providing additional guidance, feedback, and encouragement while monitoring daily progress. Once students submit completed assignments, our degreed teachers grade written paragraph answers, essays, and projects in addition to monitoring progress in computer-graded assignments. Teachers may also assign extra work or identify problems for students to rework. Students and parents who are not on-site are able to contact the teachers by e-mail or the “messaging” feature, which is built right into the curriculum.
For accurate placement in the curriculum, academic advisors customize a plan for each student. By utilizing previous school records, placement test data, and parent feedback, the academic advisors empower students to begin working on subject units at their learning levels. Each subject is comprised of approximately ten units covering daily lessons, quizzes, tests, and projects. Students must successfully complete all units in each core subject to accomplish a year’s grade level of schooling. Students can work at their own pace in order to achieve subject competency.
Parent/Guardian’s Role
Once enrolled, parents have agreed to partner with LCA HOME SCHOOL educators to accomplish the task of educating their student. This is a very powerful partnership. Daily parental involvement is essential to ensure student success. The parent holds the primary responsibility for making sure the student is prepared to learn. Parents should consistently monitor student progress and stay informed through contact with LCA HOME SCHOOL educators. LCA HOME SCHOOL commits to be available and responsive to the academic needs of each student.
Teacher’s Role
An environment of intellectual vitality and a love for learning will be provided by caring, professional Christian educators. All teachers meet the highly qualified educator requirements, meaning that they are degreed/certified teachers who are content specialists, experienced in their field, and equipped with the subject matter and pedagogical knowledge necessary for students to succeed in an educational community. LCA HOME SCHOOL is committed to ensuring that all teachers have the dispositions, values, and commitment to the profession necessary to develop a community of support for students to achieve academic success.
Fine Arts
The Fine Arts engage the students in the order of the world that we call creation, educating their senses in the grammars of sight, sound, and touch, enabling them to appreciate the works of God and freeing them to make the world more beautiful. The Fine Arts goals are to develop the talents, ideas, skills, and personal expression of each LCA student through the study of visual and performing arts. Through this process the student gains an appreciation for beauty and a cultivation of skills necessary for artistic expression.
Competitive Athletics
Participation in athletics initiates students into the order and stewardship of their own bodies. It leads them to the excitement of competition and cooperation, of care for self, and respect for others. Athletic programs begin in the elementary school with soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball.
